(Concha Espina, 1938) Diario de una prisionera, de Concha Espina, se publicó en 1938 bajo el título Esclavitud y libertad: Diario de una prisionera, en plena Guerra Civil española; desde entonces no se había vuelto a editar hasta ahora que lo rescata EDICIONES 98. Debido a su proverbial independencia la escritora sufrió cautiverio durante la Guerra Civil e incluso fue conducida a diversas checas donde estuvo a punto de ser asesinada. Este dietario fue escrito a escondidas durante su reclusión forzosa con un grupo de mujeres en su casa de Luzmela (Santander). Ofrece un magnífico recuento de los terribles acontecimientos que vivió y conoció la autora, en el que se conjugan perspicaces observaciones con sabrosos momentos novelescos dentro de la tragedia. Está escrito «en el vértigo de los peligros y la locura de la esperanza», según la propia Espina. Estamos, pues, ante el conmovedor testimonio personal de una mujer sobre la Guerra Civil española, uno de las escasos relatos femeninos sobre la situación de las mujeres durante el conflicto fratricida; el de una mujer que fue la primera española que logró vivir con la escritura y resultó candidata reiteradamente al Premio Nobel de Literatura. «CONCHA ESPINA (1869-1955) fue la primera mujer española que, gracias a su gran fuerza de voluntad y acendrada personalidad, consiguió vivir de sus escritos y, con ellos, sacar adelante a sus cinco hijos por sí sola. Sus obras y artículos periodísticos son fiel reflejo de su notorio humanismo e interés por mejorar la situación de las mujeres y de los desfavorecidos. Defendió el sufragio femenino y el divorcio, siendo de hecho una de las primeras mujeres divorciadas en la Segunda República, con la asistencia jurídica de su amiga Clara Campoamor. En las tertulias literarias que celebraba en su casa madrileña participaron, entre otros artistas y escritores, Federico García Lorca, José Antonio Primo de Rivera, Antonio Machado, Gerardo Diego y José Ortega y Gasset. Sus obras fueron traducidas al francés, inglés, alemán, italiano, sueco, etc. Gozó de un gran prestigio internacional que la llevó a ser propuesta en tres ocasiones al Premio Nobel de Literatura desde Suecia, Francia y Estados Unidos de América. En ese último país impartió ciclos de conferencias y fue nombrada vicepresidenta de la Hispanic Society de Nueva York por su amigo y admirador Archer Huntington. Dado que siempre manifestaba de manera independiente sus opiniones públicas sufrió cautiverio durante la Guerra Civil española e incluso fue conducida a diversas checas donde estuvo a punto de ser asesinada. EDICIONES 98 inicia la recuperación de esta escritora con su Diario de una prisionera, y continuará con la publicación del resto de títulos de su pentalogía sobre la Guerra Civil española: Retaguardia: Imágenes de vivos y muertos, Las alas invencibles, Luna roja y Princesas del martirio.
